May 24 (Reuters) – U.S. drug distributor Cencora (COR.N) has notified affected individuals that their personal and highly sensitive medical information was stolen during a cyberattack and data breach earlier this year, the company said on Friday.

The company, formerly known as AmerisourceBergen Corp, had disclosed a cybersecurity incident in February, in which data, some of which may have contained personal information, was stolen from its information systems.

While there is no evidence that any of the information has been publicly disclosed or misused for fraudulent purposes, Cencora said it is notifying individuals whose personal information was involved in the incident.

The company is also working to ensure they have access to resources to help them protect their information.

Technology news website TechCrunch first reported the development on Friday.

In a separate announcement, Cencora’s unit AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group (ABSG), said the information stolen was in connection with a prescription supply program offered by its now-defunct subsidiary, Medical Initiatives Inc.

Based on ABSG’s investigation, the affected protected health information included first name, last name, and prescriptions, it said late on Friday.
