Xiaomi has launched its first smart speaker with display to take on Google and Amazon. The Chinese smartphone maker has introduced XiaoAI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 with powerful speakers in its home market. The device comes after the company teased the device in its home market last week. The new smart display from Xiaomi features a design similar to Google Next Hub and Amazon Echo Show 8. Ahead of its launch in China, the device had leaked in the form of the official box last week. It comes with three subwoofers and a 50.8mm, 10W driver along with DTS audio tuning. Xiaomi has also offered compatibility with Android and iOS devices.
Xiaomi XiaoAI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 price
Xiaomi’s smart display arrives in India it would be competing with Google’s Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Show.
The listed price is lower than the leaked box, which tipped the price to be around RMB 599 (around Rs 6,700). While it has a design similar to Google and Amazon’s products, the device will challenge local rivals. The smart speaker from Xiaomi will compete with the likes of Alibaba and Baidu in the Chinese market.
The Xiaomi XiaoAI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 carries a price tag of CNY 499 (roughly Rs. 5,100).
Google’s Nest Hub smart display is available in India at Rs 9,999.
Amazon Echo Show smart displays are available in India starting at Rs 8,999.
Xiaomi XiaoAI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 specifications, features
The Xiaomi XiaoAI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 features an 8-inch multi-touch display with 1280×800 pixels resolution. There is a proprietary far-field voice-recognition technology. Further, the display has the 50.8mm 10W driver along with DTS tuning driver that is coupled with three subwoofers.
Smart speakers have been gaining popularity among consumers and Amazon is the clear leader here. However, the retail giant is followed by Alibaba and Baidu as the second and third major smart speaker brands, according to Canalys. Xiaomi seems to challenge these two home-grown internet giants in China with its smart speaker. Canalys report shows that Xiaomi is currently fifth at the end of the third quarter of this year. It reportedly shipped 3.4 million smart speakers during the quarter ending September.
The smart speaker comes with XiaoAI, the smart assistant from Xiaomi. It also supports OTT platforms such as Douyin, iQiyi and Youku in China. There is also a front camera to make and receive video calls. Connectivity options include dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0. If Xiaomi’s smart display arrives in India it would be competing with Google’s Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Show.
The product is listed on Xiaomi Youpin site and it will go on sale from December 18. It will also be available for purchase via online platforms such as Mi.com and JD.com. While it supports Android and iOS, there is no mention of global availability or price just yet.
Forthcoming Google-made Android TV dongle & new UI leak in render
At the start of last month, we exclusively reported on Google’s plans for a new Chromecast Ultra based on Android TV. Subsequent reports described a content-focused revamp of the operating system, with new leaks today showing off the next Chromecast, its remote, and “Google TV’s” new look.
Marketing material acquired by XDA today shows a pebble-shaped puck that is slightly taller than the current Chromecast. A ‘G’ logo is embedded with three colors (black, white, and pink/sand) shown. The flat HDMI cable is also seen — though the connector is not — and similarly hued.
As we previously described, we see a “Remote Control” that’s very similar to the Daydream View’s. Up top is a circular D-pad, while six circular buttons are below. From today’s leak, we see a back, Assistant, home, star/favorite, play/pause, and volume mute.
Next up is a leak of the content-focused Android TV revamp, which we hear might be rebranded to Google TV when the Chromecast launches. The homescreen starts with a top bar where search is the top-left corner. This is followed by For you, Movies, TV, Live — more about what’s new here, Apps, and My Library. It’s rather similar to the current layout of the Play Store on Android TV.
Front and center is a cover image advertising Game of Thrones from HBO Now and other shows, while there’s a “Play next” carousel below. Another capability touted is the ability to “manage your home from your couch” with a “Noise detected” notification appearing in the bottom-left.
These graphics originate from a video that will play during the set-up process, while firmware that XDA also acquired suggests an Amlogic chip that supports Dolby Vision. Codenamed “sabrina,” the retail name for this device has yet to leak, thought Nest branding was suggested by Protocol last month.

Nokia is all set to launch its Smart TV with a 43-inch screen in India on June 4, said HMD Global has revealed, a report by Gadgets 360. The Nokia website had been teasing the arrival of the 43-inch Smart TV since March. The launch could have been delayed due to the coronavirus lockdown. The 43-inch model will feature alongside the Nokia Smart TV 55-inch model which arrived in India back in December.
Nokia TV 43-inch price in India (expected)
The company has confirmed to Gadgets 360 that the Nokia Smart TV 43-inch model will launch on June 4. The new smart TV will be positioned at a price point ranging between Rs. 31,000 to Rs. 34,000 in India and the Nokia Smart TV 43-inch variant will go on sale exclusively via Flipkart. Exact pricing details and offers would be announced closer to launch. Key features on the Nokia Smart TV include JBL Audio and Dolby Vision support.
Nokia TV 43-inch features, specifications (expected)
The Nokia Smart TV 43-inch will run on Android 9.0 operating system, and it should most likely offer the same experience as the 55-inch variant. Design-wise, the Nokia Smart TV 43-inch model looks identical to the 55-inch model with slim bezels and the same V-shaped stand aesthetic. The 43-inch model should have the same specifications as the 55-inch model. The larger variant is priced at Rs. 41,999, and it also runs on Android 9 Pie. The 4K Smart TV pack quad-core processor, Mali-450 MP GPU, 2.25GB of RAM, and 16GB storage. There are two 12W speakers onboard with Dolby Audio and DTS TruSurround.
The 55-inch Nokia Smart TV has support for apps like Netflix, YouTube, Disney+ Hotstar, and Prime Video, and the 43-inch model will likely support them as well. It is also expected to offer Chromecast built0in and support for Bluetooth v5.0.
Amazon Echo Show 8 with 8-Inch Display Launched In India at Rs. 12,999
Capitalizing on the success of Alexa, Amazon has rapidly expanded its hardware line up to include a wide range of devices, from microwave ovens to even glasses. Amazon on Wednesday launched its latest device in the Echo line up. The company unveiled its Echo Show 8 in the country with an 8-inch HD screen, stereo sound, and a built-in camera with a shutter, which is priced at Rs. 12,999. The device is now available for pre-order at a discounted launch price of Rs. 8,999, and will be shipped on February 26. The Amazon Echo Show 8 was launched globally in September last year alongside other Echo-branded devices such as the Echo Buds and Echo Frames.
As the name might suggest, the Echo Show 8 showcases an 8-inch HD display that can be used to stream videos and consumer content. With the device, users also get the full suite of Alexa capabilities, including voice assistance, information, music streaming through linked services and communication. But given how privacy is a key issue in today’s world, there’s also a physical shutter to block the camera when it’s not in use.
The Echo Show 8 employs 2-inch neodymium speakers and a passive bass radiator that are capable of pushing stereo sound. With support for streaming services like Amazon Prime Music, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana and Hungama Music amongst others, the Echo Show 8 is geared to be an entertainment hub.
If you have a smart home or make use of smart appliances, Show 8 provides a seamless way to control all pre-order with either touch or voice commands. Additionally, with support for Alexa Skills, there’s a lot more that you’ll be able to do with Show 8.
The Echo Show 8 is a bit more expensive than the Echo Show 5, which is currently priced at Rs. 6,999 considering that the Echo Show 8 is itself down to Rs. 8,999 for pre-orders. However, it’s significantly more affordable than the full-size Echo Show that retails at Rs. 22,999 and has a 10.1-inch screen. In most ways, the Echo Show 8 is expected to offer the same level of capabilities as the rest of the range.
