The Batman 2: Robert Pattinson, Director Matt Reeves to Return for Sequel That’s Now Official

By Press Trust of India | Updated: 27 April 2022

The Batman 2 is a go. Warner Bros. has officially announced a sequel to its recent superhero hit The Batman.

Robert Pattinson, who played the titular superhero in the Matt Reeves-directed movie, will return for the sequel along with the filmmaker.

The studio shared the news of The Batman 2 during its presentation at CinemaCon 2022 on Tuesday night in Las Vegas.

“Matt took one of our most iconic and beloved superheroes and delivered a fresh [film]. Matt Reeves, Rob Pattinson, and the entire team will be taking audiences back to Gotham with The Batman 2,” Warner Bros. movie chief Toby Emmerich said during the presentation.

The Batman featured Pattinson as the caped crusader, who has been fighting crime in Gotham City for two years, uncovering corruption while pursuing the Riddler (Paul Dano), a serial killer who targets Gotham’s elite.

It also featured Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin.

The Batman, which released in theatres worldwide in March this year, has so far raked in over $750 million (roughly Rs. 5,746 crore) at the global box office.

Netflix Confirms Stranger Things Spin-Off and Play Based on Original Idea by the Duffer Brothers

By Agence France-Presse | Updated: 7 July 2022

Netflix’s wildly popular Stranger Things is getting a spin-off series and a new stage play set within its creepy supernatural world, the streaming giant said on Wednesday.

The sci-fi horror following a group of teenagers in a fictional US town as they battle monsters from another dimension is one of Netflix’s flagship and most-watched shows.

Stranger Things 4 sits atop the streaming giant’s all-time viewing rankings for English-language shows, which use a metric of total hours watched within 28 days of release.

It has clocked up more than 1.15 billion hours — a figure likely to rise as the final episodes only dropped on Friday, and is only surpassed by South Korean smash hit Squid Game.

Sibling creators Matt and Ross Duffer had already said season five would conclude the show’s “complete story arc,” but teased in an open letter to fans in February that there were “many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things.

On Wednesday, Netflix confirmed a “live-action Stranger Things spin-off series based on an original idea by The Duffer Brothers.”

A “new stage play set within the world and mythology” of Stranger Things is also on the way, with Stephen Daldry (The Crown) set to direct.

The projects come under a sprawling “overall deal” between the brothers and Netflix which “aim to create the kind of stories that inspired the Duffers growing up — stories that take place at that beautiful crossroads where the ordinary meets the extraordinary.”

“Matt and Ross are an exceptionally unique talent with a vision so crisp and clear,” said Netflix content boss Ted Sarandos.

“They are all about the details — it’s no accident that Stranger Things has pierced the zeitgeist to become the epic pop culture phenomenon it is today.”

The news comes with Netflix facing unfamiliar pressure, having lost subscribers earlier this year after years of uninterrupted growth, and seeing its share price plummet.

Netflix’s The Chosen One Suspends Production Following Death of Two Actors in Car Crash

By ANI | Updated: 20 June 2022

Following the accident causing the death of two actors and injury to six others from the Netflix series The Chosen One, the production of the series has now been temporarily paused.

As per Deadline, the company running the filming named Redrum has suspended the production for the Netflix series with no further information on its future. As more details are awaited, Netflix has not yet commented anything on the accident.

The accident took place while the victims were on their way to the local airport on June 16. However, the injured cast members are in stable condition.

The crew members were riding in a van when it crashed and flipped in an accident near filming of the Netflix series The Chosen One, reported Deadline.

Two actors had died in the accident and six other crew members were injured, as authorities said. The victims were not initially identified. The Baja California Department of Culture later said that Raymundo Garduno Cruz and Juan Francisco Gonzalez Aguilar were the ones that succumbed to death.

The accident occurred on a desert road near Mulege on the Baja California Sur peninsula as the crew was filming in nearby Santa Rosalia.

A Netflix description for The Chosen One reads: “A 12-year-old boy learns he’s the returned Jesus Christ, destined to save humankind. It is based on the comic book series by Mark Millar and Peter Gross.”

The Chosen One — based on Millar’s American Jesus — is part of a wave of titles that Netflix is adapting from Millarworld, a comic publishing house it owns.

Game of Thrones Sequel Series, With Jon Snow, in Early Development at HBO: Reports

By Agence France-Presse | Updated: 20 June 2022

A Game of Throne sequel focused on the fan-favourite, impossible-to-kill character Jon Snow is in early development at HBO, according to Hollywood trade reports.

Kit Harington — whose stoic warrior Snow was last seen banished from Westeros in the Thrones finale — is attached to star if the spin-off series goes ahead, the Hollywood Reporter and Variety said, citing anonymous sources.

HBO declined to comment, and Harington’s representatives did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment.

If the show gets a green light, it would be the latest in a rapidly expanding television universe based on George RR Martin’s fantasy novels.

Three live-action prequel series are already in the works — including “House of the Dragon,” which hits screens this August — as well as three animated prequels.

But the purported Jon Snow series would be the first to be set after the events of smash hit Game of Thrones, which bowed out with a deeply divisive final season in 2019.

While several major characters died, Snow — who was revealed to be Aegon Targaryen, a potential heir to the Iron Throne — left Westeros in exile, headed for the icy and wild North.

His character had already been brought back from death, after being betrayed earlier in the show’s run.

News of the possible spin-off drew mixed reaction from fans online, with some delighted to see more of arguably the standout character from Thrones, and others questioning the logic of picking up from the original show’s disappointing finale.

“Bro just re-do the last season at this point… We ain’t gonna get mad at you and you get to make all that money again and have a chance at a competent ending,” said one popular post on Reddit.

During its eight-year run from 2011, Game of Thrones was a global phenomenon, scooping a record 59 Emmys with its warring families and fire-breathing dragons, medieval violence and non-stop sex.

Martin signed a five-year deal with HBO in 2021, reportedly worth “mid-eight figures” in dollars, to develop shows both within and beyond the Thrones universe.
