Realme on Tuesday, December 17 launched its much-hyped true wireless earbuds, the Buds Air alongside the new smartphone, Realme X2. The first truly wireless earbuds from Realme that would take on the Apple AirPods 2 are scheduled to debut in India. The Chinese smartphone maker has been raving about their entry into wireless earbuds for some time now before finally unveiling the product today.

Meanwhile, a report has surfaced online that reveal the earbuds in detail. The Realme Buds Air is claimed to come with a proprietary R1 SoC that could be Realme’s answer to Apple’s H1 chip powering the AirPods 2. The new earbuds are also rumoured to deliver as much as 17 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Realme Buds Air, the Chinese smartphone maker’s first truly wireless earbuds, are here. Announced on Tuesday alongside the Realme X2 at an event in New Delhi, the earbuds come with a design that is quite reminiscent of the Apple AirPods. The earbuds join the company’s growing accessory portfolio in India that the company wants to further expand as we enter the New Year in a few days. Realme claims that Buds Air can provide a total of 17 hours of music playback on a single charge, however, there is a caveat. This backup includes the time provided by the extra charge present in the wireless charging case of the earbuds.

Realme Buds Air price in India, sale date

Resembling the design of Apple’s AirPods 2, the Buds Air carries a much less price tag of Rs. 3,999 and comes in three attractive colours – black, yellow and white, these went on the sale for the first time in the company’s Hate-to-Wait sale at 2 pm on Tuesday. The next sale for Realme Buds Air is scheduled for December 23. The Realme Buds Air will be offered via Flipkart and Realme.com.

The Realme Buds Air is currently the cheapest true wireless with wireless charging support earbuds available in the Indian market. At this pricing, Realme Buds Air will be competing with the likes of Leaf Pods and Noise Shots X3, both of which are also available under Rs. 5,000 in the country.

Realme Buds Air specifications, features

The Realme Buds Air is currently the cheapest true wireless with wireless charging support earbuds available in the Indian market. According to company claims, the Buds Air has the capacity to last for up to 17 hours of music play.

In terms of the features, Realme Buds Air comes with a 12mm bass boost driver, multi-layer composite diaphragm, and environment noise cancellation support for calling. The earbuds also support dual-channel transmission and the company has added a dedicated gaming mode with low-latency.

The earbuds are powered by custom R1 chip and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, specially designed for gamers who love their sound effects, to say the least. Apart from that, the earbuds come with a significant low-latency mode and reduce latency by 51% when you’re playing a game. Latency is the short delay between an audio signal being sent and when you can hear it. You won’t notice it when listening to music, but if you’re watching a video or playing a game, it can cause the sound to be out of sync with the picture.

Wireless charging and the presence of USB Type-C port are two features that set the Realme Buds Ai apart from this price segment. The bundled charging case with the Buds Air support wireless charging and it also includes USB Type-C in case you want to charge using a cable includes the extra backup provided by the charging case. Without that extra charge, the earbuds will last 3 hours of music playback. The charging case support Qi wireless charging so it can be used with any Qi-compatible chargers.

Other important features include the ENC (Environment Noise Cancellation) technology to provide noise-free audio experience.

Moreover, the Buds Air also houses touch controls that users can enable to answer and disconnect calls, switch music, and activate gaming mode.

Additionally, Realme Buds Air comes with auto-connection support, in-ear detection, two microphones, Google Assistant integration, and touch controls. The earbuds also pack Bluetooth 5.0. A single earbud weighs 4.16 grams, whereas the charging case is 42.3 grams.

Below is the breakup of the various controls:

Double-tap: Answer a call; play/pause music playback.

Triple-tap: Skip to next song.

Press and hold one side: Launch voice assistant; end/decline a call;

Press and hold both sides: Enter/exit Gaming Mode.

Just a few days ago, it was strongly hinted that Sony was getting ready to launch its latest wireless headphone. That piece of news should be accurate, as a promo video of the Sony WH-1000XM4 was leaked online. The teaser showed some of the phone tech specs and features, some that were not found in the previous model.

Sony is holding an audio-related event on August 6 and it is widely believed that this is when the much-heralded Sony WH-1000XM4 ANC headphones will be officially launched.  Various leaks concerning the headphones have already revealed some details, including an expectedly hefty price tag. But with the WH-1000XM4 headphones you do seem to be getting what you pay for. Thanks to a leaked video, we now get a glimpse of what’s new on the upcoming model compared to the -already excellent XM3s.

For instance, the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones have a wearing detection sensor, which means they will stop playing audio if you remove them from your head. There is also a useful Speak-to-Chat mode where audio is paused if you start talking to someone while wearing the headphones. The audio is paused for a default period of 30 seconds, although this can be altered in the accompanying app. The WH-1000XM4 headphones are fitted with a QN1 processor, Bluetooth audio SoC, 40 mm HD hybrid drivers and they feature touch controls.

The list of features doesn’t stop there though. The Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones have adaptive sound control depending on your activity and location (walking, sitting on a train, etc.) and you can program the device to play your favorite sounds in certain registered places. Hands-free calling is onboard, as is the use of Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa where available. Users can expect to enjoy 360-degree reality audio that is enhanced by the DSEE Extreme engine, which offers real time audio up-scaling based on the music genre or instrument type.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 personal audio device, which is shown both in black and silver-gray, has dual noise sensor technology to help provide the best sound possible for buyers of the premium ANC headphones, and up to 30 hours of playback can also be expected. With fast-charge technology, the Sony headphones can get a quick 10-minute power boost and last five hours just from that. It’s a lot of technology built into a pair of headphones, but you would expect that from a device that is rumored to be priced in the region of US$349/€379.90.
